  • Need to know the real number before you ask your CFO for money

Neither choice makes you a hero. I’ve done both. My cheapest purchase worked fine for two years. My “expensive” purchase has never had a surprise invoice. The goal is to know which risk you’re accepting.

The damage total over the years is somewhere in five figures. That’s the annoying thing about these decisions: the mistakes are visible in the budget, but the alternative costs are invisible.
